As with all Nasomatto’s fragrances, Nudiflorum perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri is not interested in breaking it down for you. You won’t find a list of notes included with the packaging. The vague description provided on the official site is limited to a handful of words that read romantic but really don’t tell you much about the scent itself. When asked to describe the composition in an interview with Wallpaper he responded defiantly, “Why ask me? People always need to explain everything, to understand, to give a reason to things. Sometimes, you just need to feel it“. It’s a sentiment I agree with entirely. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, why should it be any different for the nose?
He does provide a few details of the process during the interview, mainly that leather was involved, and how it needed to be cushioned in order to make it “less violent”. The leather is certainly apparent but not in a traditional manner. For me, it’s presented by its warmth rather than any semblance of saddle leather or what you would experience with a new pair of boots. Any hint of that seems to be buried well below the floral accords of jasmine and violets. It brings a few powdery and woody notes as well but they are minimal to me and kept perfectly in the peripheral.
Similarly to the rest of the line, Nudiflorum is sold in no larger than a 30ml bottle, which doesn’t seem like much based on the price point. However, as anyone with experience with Gualtieri’s fragrances would tell you, a little bit goes a long way so there is plenty of value in a seemingly small amount. You really only need a few spritzes to last a full day and the rewards are plenty. It surrounds you entirely and everyone will notice it. I’ll add just a little to my neck, chest, and forearm, and everyone I encounter throughout the day, friends and strangers alike, seem to compliment it. It’s by far one of the most well received fragrances I’ve ever worn, and to be honest, that’s probably the truest measure of a scent.
Everything about this fragrance starts from the warm middle and works outwardly through it’s incredible depth of leather, flowers, and wood. The brand describes it as a “…quest to find a vanishing point in nature” and I believe that is accomplished as you truly become one while wearing it. Even though this was only released in 2018, and I am a true fan of the entire line as a whole, Nudiflorum has quickly become one of my all time favorite fragrances and I wear it at least a couple of times a week.
